چکیده
Abstract Aims A defunctioning loop ileostomy is constructed to reduce the incidence and consequences of anastomotic leaks following sphincter-sparing colorectal resection. Its construction reversal may be associated with complications. The aim this study present a snapshot outcome in teaching general hospital. Methods All patients whose was reversed 2018 were studied. Sociodemographic clinical data collected. outcomes measured length hospital stay, return bowel function, morbidity mortality. Results Nine had by experienced surgeons during period. patients, 5 males 4 females, median age 58 years (range 20 77 years). main indications for low anterior resection rectal neoplasia (7 patients) iatrogenic perforation hysterectomy (1 patient), total colectomy ileoanal pouch reservoir ulcerative colitis patient). ileostomies between 10 months operations. postoperative stay 2 12 days. complications included one leak, requiring immediate re-operation, 3 wound infections incisional hernias. There no deaths. Conclusion In our overall complication rate well within range reported literature, only patient re-operation. presence senior surgeon at operation as careful attention detail key keeping minimum.

Laparoscopic Loop Ileostomy Reversal: Reducing Morbidity While Improving Functional Outcomes
INTRODUCTION Loop ileostomy reduces the morbidity associated with pelvic sepsis. However, its reversal carries a 10% to 30% complication rate. We present our technique for laparoscopic ileostomy closure. METHODS We conducted a retrospective chart review of subjects undergoing laparoscopic-assisted loop ileostomy closure between 2006 and 2009. Operating time, length of hospital stay, return o...
متن کاملMeta-analysis of handsewn versus stapled reversal of loop ileostomy.
BACKGROUND The morbidity associated with closure of loop ileostomy (LI) may be attributed to the various surgical techniques employed for the closure. The purpose of this review was to review the hand-sutured (HS) versus the stapled anastomosis (SA) techniques, used in the reversal of LI. METHODS The MEDLINE, PubMed, CINHAL, Cochrane library and Web of Knowledge databases were searched for ra...

INTRODUCTION A de-functioning loop ileostomy (LI) reduces the consequences of anastomotic leak following low anterior resection, but its construction as well as its closure can be associated with complications. The aim of the present study was to identify risk factors for postoperative complications and particularly to determine if operation performed by trainees carry a higher risk of complica...
متن کاملConventional Linear versus Purse-string Skin Closure after Loop Ileostomy Reversal: Comparison of Wound Infection Rates and Operative Outcomes
PURPOSE Wound infection after an ileostomy reversal is a common problem. To reduce wound-related complications, purse-string skin closure was introduced as an alternative to conventional linear skin closure. This study is designed to compare wound infection rates and operative outcomes between linear and purse-string skin closure after a loop ileostomy reversal. METHODS Between December 2002 ...
متن کاملRoutine use of gastrograffin enema prior to the reversal of a loop ileostomy.
BACKGROUND/AIMS Anastomotic failure occurs in up to 10% of patients following anterior resection. Selective use of a loop ileostomy may reduce the septic consequences of anastomotic leak. The use of gastrograffin enema to confirm the anastomotic integrity prior to ileostomy closure is still controversial. Our aim was to determine the impact of the routine use of gastrograffin enema on patients'...
